# ZwangerWijzer: Understanding Pregnancy Risks Before Conception

Erasmus MC and Perined partnered with Dawn Technology to develop a digital tool that helps women and their partners identify potential health risks before pregnancy. We created a user-friendly assessment that makes complex medical knowledge accessible to anyone planning to start a family.

**Discovery**## Creating Awareness Before Pregnancy Begins

Many risks affecting both mother and child can be influenced before pregnancy. However, many prospective parents are unaware of which risk factors may be relevant to their personal situation. Erasmus MC and Perined were looking for a digital solution that could quickly provide insight into potential health risks, offer practical lifestyle advice and encourage users to consult healthcare professionals at an early stage.

The solution needed to be:

- Reliable and medically accurate
- Easy to understand
- Accessible to a broad audience
- Low-threshold and easy to use

The ultimate goal was to empower people to make informed decisions before conception and improve pregnancy outcomes through prevention.

**Design & development**## An Accessible Assessment for Women and Men

Dawn Technology developed ZwangerWijzer as an interactive questionnaire that provides users with personalised insights within approximately 15 minutes.

Based on the answers provided, the application automatically generates a personal report containing tailored recommendations and information about potential risks.

Topics include:

- Nutrition and healthy eating habits
- Folic acid supplementation
- Smoking cessation
- Lifestyle factors
- Pre-existing health conditions
- Other risk indicators relevant to pregnancy

When potential risks are identified, the platform provides additional information and context to help users better understand their situation.

All results can be downloaded and shared with healthcare professionals, including:

- General practitioners
- Midwives
- Medical specialists

The platform was designed with a strong focus on medical accuracy, usability and straightforward content management, ensuring that information remains reliable and easy to maintain.

ZwangerWijzer provides clear, scientifically validated insights into preconception health risks. By helping users recognise potential concerns before pregnancy, the platform enables more meaningful conversations with healthcare professionals and supports timely preventive measures.
