# Digital Coaching for Firefighters

Several Dutch Safety Regions partnered with Dawn Technology to develop a digital solution that supports firefighters both mentally and physically in preparing for the Recruitment Medical Examination (AK) and the Preventive Periodic Medical Examination (PPMO). The result is a digital platform that makes firefighter fitness measurable, trackable and trainable.

**Discovery**## A Critical Profession Requires Targeted Support

Firefighters must meet strict physical and mental requirements to perform their duties safely and effectively. With the introduction of the validated AK and PPMO assessments, the sector gained a modern framework for evaluating fitness and employability. However, there was no accessible way for firefighters to prepare for these assessments.

The Safety Regions were looking for a digital tool that would:

- Give firefighters insight into their physical fitness and performance
- Support them with targeted training programmes
- Provide healthcare and management teams with clear statistics to support responsible workforce management

**Design & development**## A Complete App and Web Platform for Preparation, Insight and Motivation

Dawn Technology developed the **Brandweer Coach**, consisting of a mobile application for iOS and Android as well as a web platform. The solution helps operational firefighters prepare both mentally and physically for the AK, PPMO and the broader demands of firefighting.

**Platform Features**

Available via both the website and mobile devices, the platform includes:

**BBT Fitness Test Guidance**

Short instructional videos explain the BBT Fitness Test and demonstrate how each component should be performed.

**Sports Passport**

Firefighters can view their results, monitor fitness progress over time and gain insight into areas for improvement. This encourages personal ownership of health and performance development.

**Management Information and Reporting**

Comprehensive dashboards and statistical insights provide management teams with valuable information about workforce fitness and development trends.

**Fitness Assessment Guidance**

The platform explains the purpose and execution of the Fitness Assessment through short educational videos, ensuring participants understand what is expected.

**Training Programmes**

Both general and specialised training programmes are available. In collaboration with sports instructors, tailored programmes can be assigned based on individual goals and requirements.

The application was designed for daily use, with a clear user interface and a content structure that can easily be managed by instructors and regional organisations.
