# NBD-Online: From Platform Management to Scalable Knowledge Bases

NBD-Online.nl is Sdu’s platform for the construction and installation industry, providing product and supplier information, industry news and specialised knowledge resources. When the platform unexpectedly lost its maintenance provider, Sdu turned to Dawn Technology for reliable support, platform management and the development of scalable digital knowledge bases.

**Discovery**## From a Maintenance Crisis to a Strong Partnership

When the original maintenance provider of NBD-Online withdrew from the project, Sdu needed to find a new partner quickly. The requirements were clear: experienced PHP specialists, a dedicated support department and proven operational continuity.

Dawn Technology met all these criteria and took over the existing platform, built with PHP, MySQL and JavaScript, with virtually no knowledge transfer from the previous supplier. Within a short period, the environment was stabilised and fully operational again, allowing Sdu to focus on the future of its digital publishing strategy.

**Design & development**## Scalable Knowledge Bases Delivered at Speed

Once the platform's stability had been restored, a new initiative began: developing digital knowledge bases that could make valuable construction and technical information from books, standards and guidelines accessible online.

Sdu’s objective was to create a single knowledge-base model that could easily be replicated for new subject areas. To support this goal, we created a transparent project proposal and developed the solution using Drupal, following an agile methodology with regular iterations and close collaboration.

Integrations with other Sdu products required custom development, but the result was a flexible and scalable platform that allows new knowledge bases to be launched within just a few days.

**Conclusion**## Reliable Platform Management and Sustainable Growth

What started as an urgent maintenance takeover evolved into a long-term partnership. Today, five knowledge bases are live, including ATEX, NEN 1010 and NEN 3140, with new releases being deployed on a monthly basis.
