Speakap is a business social network that modernises internal communication within organisations. As the company’s ambitions and user base grew rapidly, Speakap engaged Dawn Technology as a strategic partner to conduct in-depth audits of its architecture, performance and security.
Speakap was founded on the idea of bringing the power of social media into the workplace. The first versions of the platform showed great promise, but rapid growth created the need for an independent technical assessment.
The question posed to Dawn Technology was straightforward: is the platform future-proof, secure and capable of supporting hundreds of thousands of users?
To answer this, we conducted comprehensive audits across three critical areas: architecture, performance and security. These pillars form the foundation of every successful digital platform and would determine Speakap’s ability to scale sustainably.
The first step was a comprehensive architecture audit. We analysed the platform’s software design, infrastructure and development processes.
Our most important recommendation was to migrate towards a layered architecture with clearly separated software components. This approach would enable databases and services to be distributed across multiple servers more effectively, improving flexibility, maintainability and scalability.
Next, we conducted a performance audit focused on application speed and user experience. By redesigning the caching strategy, Speakap was able to load data in smaller, more efficient batches. This significantly improved responsiveness, even when supporting hundreds of thousands of active users.
The final phase consisted of a series of security audits. These assessments not only identified potential vulnerabilities but also evaluated development practices and security procedures. The resulting recommendations became embedded in Speakap’s software development lifecycle and continue to serve as a foundation for secure development today.
With our guidance, Speakap now operates on a platform that is built for long-term growth: scalable, secure and aligned with ISO 27001 standards.
