Our Smart Family Buddy (OSFB) supports young families in Rotterdam South with a healthy lifestyle. Led by Erasmus MC and funded by NWO, the program utilizes a secure AI coach built by Dawn Technology. This coach guides expecting and young parents using reliable answers drawn exclusively from validated knowledge sources, never the open internet.

**Discovery**## Trustworthy guidance right when clinics are closed

In neighborhoods like IJsselmonde, people with lower incomes live an average of 7.5 years shorter and spend about 18 fewer years in good health. Families need guidance exactly when it matters, which is often outside regular consultation hours. Generic AI is unsuitable for this because it invents answers, lacks the family's context, and does not cite sources. Therefore, OSFB needed an AI solution that is reliable, understandable, and demonstrably safe.

**Design & development**## An AI coach on 'The Knowledge'

Dawn Technology delivers 'The Knowledge', our white-label AI RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) platform. This platform combines a language model with OSFB’s validated knowledge base, including lifestyle advice, guidelines, and educational materials. Within OSFB, this acts as a coach for expecting and young parents. The coach communicates in plain language, is tailored to the family's situation, and focuses on small, achievable steps. Every answer comes from validated knowledge and includes a source citation. This ensures explainable AI instead of a black box.

The platform is set up as a white-label solution, featuring OSFB branding, proprietary datasets, and proprietary documents that are automatically indexed. Answers include citations, and the system is rapidly deployable and adaptable per use case. Human oversight remains central where it matters, supported by independent guardrails for safety and compliance. Because health data requires the highest security, all data stays within agreed EU borders with full logging and audit trails. This complies with GDPR, the AI Act, NEN 7510, and ISO 27001. **Conclusie**## A working platform, not an experiment

OSFB provides families with personalized, trustworthy guidance, even outside regular clinic hours. The consortium gains a working and scalable platform with demonstrably safe data handling, rather than a loose AI experiment. It is a building block to reduce health inequalities and relieve pressure on the healthcare system. As a result, OSFB is one of the first practical applications of 'The Knowledge'.
